Our History & Philosophy
A Big Little Trucking Company: The Philosophy We Live By At Waggoners, we say that we're a big little trucking company. You see, even though we're a national trucking company with more than a thousand employees we still do business today the way that Wayne Waggoner did when he was one driver with one truck. In 1951, Wayne Waggoner founded a trucking company on one solid principle: he wouldn't give his customers what they needed. He would give them more.
Waggoners began as a single-truck operation, with Wayne transporting eggs from his parents' egg hatchery in Centerville Iowa. Then, just a few years later, he saw an opportunity that he could not pass up, and decided to begin the transport of oversized and heavy equipment - something that the company is still known for today.
By 1968, the fleet had grown to 35 trucks, and lumber and grain were added to the list of hauling services. As further opportunities arose, services expanded to include flatbed and less-than-load (LTL) services, largely in oilfield-related industries.
Waggoners' Auto Transport Division was created in 1987 and quickly grew to become the company's leading division. It also established Waggoners as the largest family-owned, non-union car-hauling company in the U.S.
As times have changed, so has Waggoners. In 2008, we introduced our Wind Express Division, created specifically to meet the unique needs and demands of the wind energy industry.
Today, Waggoners Trucking has 800 trucks on the road, 40 locations and nearly 1,000 employees dedicated to helping our customers drive their business forward. And although we can't wait to see what the next 60 years will bring, we do know one thing: we won't give our customers what they need. We'll give them more.
